Score 97/100 · Drink 2001-2016, Robert Parker, Dec 2001

A singular effort of great concentration, the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes exhibits honeysuckle, marmalade, rose petal, and acacia flower characteristics along with immense body, high glycerin, and good acidity. It can be drunk now, but promises to last for 12-15 years. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802

Creamy but bright aromas of spice, honey, roasted nuts and exotic mandarin orange zest. Dense and thick but framed by racy acidity; creamy soft citrus flavors offer great appeal already, but this seemed to tighten up with aeration. Finishes very long and subtly complex. Drink this today, says Perrin, or put it away for eight years.
