The debut vintage for this wine made by the team at Cos d’Estournel has proven to be a sleeper of the vintage and is aging beautifully. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot, it exhibits a dark garnet color along with aromas of tobacco leaf, creme de cassis, licorice and cedarwood. Fleshy, medium-bodied, fresh and lively, it is fully mature, but is in no danger of falling apart. Enjoy it over the next several years, as it is a point.

Greenish, herbaceous nose. Then masses of acidity. There is some substance but it’s painfully tart overall, with some tannins. A bit of a Marmite wine I suspect and some people will enjoy the sheer mass and sweet middle. (JR)

Brand new wine from the team at Cos made from superior parcels of old Cabernet vines (80%) and Merlot to the north of St Estèphe. Made with all the modern winemaking tricks and packaged in eye-catching form. Very sweet and very modern. You would never take this for an AC Médoc! Luscious, sweet, round – very ripe – but with good cool-soil freshness too. It's difficult to imagine there will be this quality every year but it's a great start to a project designed to bring some prosperity to one of Bordeaux's deprived areas. (JR)
