The 2009 de Fargues is very refined and detailed on the nose with pure botrytised fruit, quince and honeysuckle, developing waxy aromas with continued aeration. The palate is well balanced with a killer line of acidity that reminds me of Coutet. Great depth and penetration here. This is a marvelous, quite magisterial Sauternes that should age many many years. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

Pale to medium gold in color, the 2009 de Fargues drifts effortlessly out of the glass with gorgeous honeysuckle, candied ginger, tropical fruit preserves and musk perfume scents followed by nuances of beeswax, chamomile tea and quince paste. Full-bodied, seductively rich and super sweet, the hedonistic layers are beautifully offset by wonderful freshness, finishing long and very layered. It possesses mature notions and yet still has bags of vibrant fruit, so loads of time ahead for this stunner.

Tasted blind. Bright, deep coppery gold. Rather light nose. Big and bold on the front palate. Builds towards the finish, though it’s a little brassy rather than tight and contained. Not that sweet. (JR)

Pale gold. Intriguing, introvert nose. Broad and rich and with exciting hidden depths. Real finesse and complexity. Still youthful. Not the sweetest. (JR)

GP-accueil
de Fargues

Owned by the Lur-Saluces family (which also previously owned Ch. d’Yquem) since 1472, Ch. de Fargues benefited from similar care and attention. The resulting wines are impressive and – unlike most in the region which are now offered en primeur – only released three years after the vintage.
