Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 de Fargues has a broody nose, piqued at being broached too young (at least for Château de Fargues). The palate is rounded on the entry with orange zest and marmalade notes, very good weight but it feels a little muted towards the finish at the moment. That is typical de Fargues - cellar this for another ten years because all the component parts are here. Tasted April 2016.
Quite dark. Tough, appleskin aromas then barley sugar and rather a jagged texture at present. Lots of acidity but less creamy richness than Climens. (JR)
Dark gold. Lots of acidity and then big and bold and already quite evolved. Not much definition. Big and brassy. Quite astringent. Quite full but not at all subtle. A certain syrupy quality. (JR)
About the producer

Owned by the Lur-Saluces family (which also previously owned Ch. d’Yquem) since 1472, Ch. de Fargues benefited from similar care and attention. The resulting wines are impressive and – unlike most in the region which are now offered en primeur – only released three years after the vintage.
