Score 93/100 · Drink 2014-2025, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2014

The 2009 Series C was born in a idyllic growing season and the fruit was picked before the fires that affected the fynbos shrub-land. A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 8% Malbec aged for 23 months in 100% new French oak, it has a very pure and harmonious bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, cedar and just a touch of sandalwood emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly “furry” tannins, well-judged acidity, quite precise and focused with a dash of black pepper toward the structured and grippy finish. There is very good backbone here – slightly austere but nevertheless, a sophisticated "Series C" that will age well.

54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec. Fruit from Simonsberg as well as Paarl. Winemaker: Martin Smith, age 34. Refined clarety nose but surprisingly ripe on the palate – more prunes than cassis. Over-sweet and over-concentrated but resurrected by the fresh acidity. Firm, chewy tannins. (JH)

54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec, French oak. Deep dark crimson. Refined aromas of cedary dark fruit. More fluid than the Series M, a little more fleet of foot and elegant, finer tannins and equally delicious. (JH)
