Score 88/100 · Drink 2014-2018, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2014

The 2004 Series C was marked by a short hot spell during January and light rain during March, the season providing larger berries than in 2003. A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec aged for 19 months in 225-liter new French oak. This is clearly more Cabernet-driven and fresher on the nose, with fine delineation – plenty of lifted blackberry and mint scents. The palate is medium-bodied, well balanced with a harmonious texture, although it is missing some depth on the rather conservative, Médoc-like finish.

(52% cabernet sauvigon, 35% merlot, 9% cab franc and 4% malbec) Full ruby-red. Ripe plum, musky dark raspberry and tobacco on the nose. Suave, lush and sweet, with ripe, generous flavors of plum, currant and milk chocolate complicated by mocha and caraway sweed. Round texture nicely enlivened by ripe acidity. Finishes with broad, fine tannins and lovely subtle persistence. This gained in richness with aeration and should evolve nicely in bottle for eight to ten years. Combines the best characteristics of Old and New World. I found both of these 2004s to be clearly sweeter and suaver than earlier vintages under this label, reflecting the evolution of technique here. This is a joint venture between Warwick Estate's Mike Ratcliffe and Californians Zelma Long and Phil Freese.
