Dense and chocolaty, with notions of dark fruits, crushed rock, bakers chocolate and asphalt, the 2003 Cote Rotie Seigneur de Maugiron is 100% Syrah (mostly from the Cote Brune) that was aged in 30% new French oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and impressively concentrated on the palate, with beautiful depth and a layered, seamless feel, it too will have upwards of another decade of longevity. This was a brilliant showing from Delas, and across the board the wines have superb fruit and texture, with mostly youthful profiles.

Light ruby. Pungent, intensely floral aromas of bitter cherry, iron and tobacco; this could pass for traditional Bordeaux from Graves. Solidly built and structured, with abundant floral tones accenting the dark berry and cherry flavors. Tangy minerality gives the bright finish very good lift.
Full ruby. Black fruits, woodsmoke, minerals, leather and smoked meat on the nose. Sweet, penetrating flavors of blackberry, blueberry, violet, pepper and bitter chocolate, all nicely framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes with huge, broad tannins and surprising vivacity for the vintage. Grange says the pH here is a reasonable 3. 75.
