Tasting notes
The maiden 1999 Domaine de l’A, which includes 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, is now showing its age with scorched leather and earthy aromas, the fruit rather lacking after almost two decades. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, slightly dry tannin, notes of cocoa and cedar with a rather austere and conservative finish. The fruit probably ebbed away a few years ago. Tasted at Berry Brothers & Rudd vertical with Stéphane Derenoncourt.

This is a deep ruby/purple-colored wine with sweet notes of espresso intermixed with jammy blackberry and cassis fruit. It is supple-textured with sweet tannin, copious fruit and glycerine, and a long, persistent, harmonious finish. Drink it in its first 10-12 years of life. It is the property of one of the region's most talented winemaking consultants ... and a name to remember, Stephane Derenoncourt.
