Tasting notes
The medium to full-bodied 2000 Gigondas reveals a similar minerality to the 2001, intermixed with sweet plum and cherry fruit, a sweet attack, and dry tannin in the finish. It has become more structured and delineated than it was prior to bottling. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15 years. One of the coolest climate terroirs in Gigondas, Les Paillieres's vineyard must represent a harvesting nightmare given the number of different parcels. Owned by Daniel Brunier, better known as the proprietor of Vieux-Telegraphe, and American importer, Kermit Lynch, this estate has gone from strength to strength under Brunier and Lynch's leadership. By the way, Kermit Lynch has branched out and has released a sensational bluesy CD called "Quicksand." All the songs were written by Lynch and are performed by a group called The Down in the Alley Players. Damn fine music in my mind! Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel.
