Vivid purple. Expansive red fruit and floral scents show impressive clarity and pick up a spicy element with air. Rich yet lively, offering weighty raspberry and cherry flavors and a hint of candied lavender. Takes on darker fruit character on the back end and finishes sappy and very long, with lingering floral and spice notes.

The 2010 Gigondas is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, with 30% aged in tank and the rest in 1- to 4-year-old small oak barrels. It exhibits a lot of earth, mineral, kirsch and raspberry fruit in a medium to full-bodied, cool climate style. One of the better estates in Gigondas is run by Gilles and Thierry Faravel. Domaine La Bouissiere produces two Gigondas cuvees with the most abundant being the 2,500-case Gigondas tradition. A Peter Vezan Selection, various American importers including: Michael Skurnick, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300 and Vintner Select, Cincinnati, OH; tel. (513) 229-3630

Blackish ruby. Scented and rather clarety. Lively – some Syrah here? A very attractive whole that is dry rather than sweet. Appetising. Verging on severe but not. (JR)

A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah that is aged 60% in foudre and the rest in tank, the 2010 Domaine La Bouïssiere Gigondas is a traditional, elegantly styled Gigondas that boasts perfumed, complex aromatics of spice-laced red and black fruits, green peppercorns, underbrush, garrigue, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully fresh and focused on the palate, with notable acidity, fine tannin, and a silky texture, this is classy stuff that shines for its balance, texture, and overall poise. It is certainly delicious now, but will benefit from short term cellaring and drink well for 10-12 years.
