Score 89/100 · Drink 2022-2030, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, May 2022

Another challenging vintage that is overdelivering expectations but is very much on the last few years of its prime drinking window. Dark fruits, a little soft thorugh the mid palate but still plenty of brambled blackberries, bilberries, undergrowth, soft leather, touches of white pepper, and clear Pauillac tannins. 80% new oak.

Score 84/100 · Drink 1997-2006, Robert Parker, Feb 1997

An evolved dark garnet color is followed by vegetal, green pepper-like aromas, and some sweet, redcurranty fruit. Given the laudable consistency of Pichon-Longueville-Baron since the late eighties, the 1993 is mediocre. It is soft, vegetal, and easy to drink, but uninteresting. Anticipated maturity: now-2006.

Stylish, well-defined red berry, mineral, smoke and toast flavors, adding some herbal notes. Medium in body, well balanced, with a crisp but satisfying and lingering finish. Try in 1998. 25,000 cases made.James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1996
