Quite deep gold. A disappointing bottle without real lift. Heavy, foot-dragging nose. Just plain earthy rather than earthy-truffly. Hint of oxidation. Slightly coarse-textured. Nothing to hold it all together. Light palate attack. Sudden finish. Those who had tasted this wine previously thought it a disappointing bottle. I certainly usually rate 1985s in a line-up much higher than this. Disgorged three years earlier. (JR)
