Even better, with a touch more depth and mid-palate richness, the 2009 Domaine Léon Barral Faugères Jadis is a blend of 50% Carignan, 40% Syrah, 10% Grenache that’s aged for upwards of 24 to 26 months in 10% new Barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this spectacular wine shows its Syrah component with ripe blackberry, black cherries, roasted meats, graphite, and tobacco qualities flowing to a full-bodied, incredibly polished and pure palate that finishes with chalky tannin. Seamless, voluptuous, and rich, yet with fantastic freshness, underlying structure, and an overall elegance about it, this absurdly good Faugères should be given 2-3 years of bottle age, and then consumed over the following 10-12 years.
