The 1986 Clos de Tart Grand Cru shows poorly, presenting a bucolic, herbaceous nose of field mushrooms and a touch of oxtail, clearly bereft of fruit. It’s no surprise that the palate feels bony – skeletal, even – and dominated by dry tannins and an attenuated finish. To be frank, there are few redeeming features to this Clos de Tart, which should have been consumed by now, if not long ago. Tasted at the Clos de Tart vertical at Ten Trinity in London.

Looks quite old! Pale rust red. Definitely old and chaptalised nose. Very sweet and medicinal and then pretty tough and uncompromising. Not appetising. (JR)

The 1986 Clos de Tart from Mommessin is light, a bit astringent and hard, without a great deal of depth or charm. It is doubtful whether there is more fruit hiding behind the dry tannins.
