Score 86/100 · Drink 2002-2010, Robert Parker, Feb 1997

Made in an attractive, more muscular style, the 1994 displays a dark ruby/purple color, spicy, meaty, curranty aromas with a touch of cedar and earth, moderate tannin, and good flesh and structure. It may develop into an upper eighty point wine if the tannin melts away without a loss of fruit. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2010.

Clearly defined and well made, with violet, berry character and fine tannins. Not quite as good as from barrel. Drink now through 2000. James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1997.

Medium color. Blackcurrant and a hint of oak spice on the nose. Bright and nicely delineated, but lacks for personality. Finishes with notes of chocolate and smoke, and some chewy, rather rustic tannins.
