Tasting notes
Deep ruby. Wildly aromatic, complex bouquet of fresh raspberry, cherry, garrigue and smoked meat. Deep and sweet, offering fleshy red and dark berry liqueur flavors along with candied licorice, beef blood and succulent herbs. This is extremely complex and finishes with outstanding clinging persistence. Put this one away to sleep.

The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix has a deep ruby/plum/purple color, some ground pepper, roasted herb, and black raspberry and cherry notes, but also a surprising amount of new oak. The wine has an angular finish and seems slightly dry and disjointed at present, with very high tannins and zesty acidity. It certainly should come around, but patience will be required. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 12-15. Importer: J & R Selections, Mt. Pleasant, MI; tel. (517) 772-3695 and Louis/Dressner, New York, NY; tel. (212) 334-8191
Jean-Paul Versino. Sweet and rich, less transparent than the regular bottling and much more tannin. Not nearly as immediately appealing though I suppose it may get there. (JR)
