Score 90/100 · Drink 1990-1998, Robert Parker, Jan 1990

The 1988 Charmes-Chambertin was even more seductive than the Bonnes Mares, somewhat lighter, but silky smooth. This has to be one of Dujac's most consistent Grands Crus, yet it is often overlooked. It is excellent in 1988, although when tasted side by side with the 1987, I could not rate one vintage higher than the other. The 1988 shows ripe, nearly opulent berry-flavored fruit, a generous lashing of toasty new oak, a heady perfume of leather, cedar, and plums, and a soft finish. It should be drunk over the next 7-8 years. All of the Domaine Dujac wines are bottled unfiltered.
