I did not yet taste the recently released 2006 so far, but the salmon-colored 2005 Palmes d'Or Vintage Brut Rosé is in a good shape today. The assemblage of Pinot Noirs from Bouzy and Riceys comes along as a full-bodied, round and aromatic rosé de saignée with precise dark, red berry and wild cherry flavors mingled with floral aromas. Fruit intense yet also very delicate and elegant on the broad and intensely flavored palate, with nicely fresh and floral aromas, this generous, smoothly textured cuvée reveals a good finesse, freshness, and a lovely purity in the long and aromatic finish. There is a very fine tannin structure in this supple, elegant and charmingly harmonious wine, which makes it a delicious champagne not only for aperitifs or lobster, but also with fine beef or even mild hard cheeses. Since the 2005 would not improve further, I recommend to drink it in between the next 2-3 years.

Bright orange-pink. Deeply pitched aromas of ripe red berries, blood orange, candied rose and smoky lees. Palate-coating raspberry and bitter orange pith flavors are complicated by suggestions of buttered toast, tarragon and cocoa powder. Drinks like a Burgundy, finishing with strong thrust and repeating smoke and red fruit qualities. I wouldn't hesitate to serve this Champagne with red meat dishes; it would be fantastic with steak tartare or beef, lamb or tuna carpaccio. L34433.

Dark rosé or pale crimson red in color, the 2005 Palmes d'Or Brut Rosé offers a perfumed bouquet of candied cherries and roses. On the palate this is a full-bodied, quite powerful, floral, sweet and herb-laced Champagne whose carbonic acid is quite loud and whose fruity and slightly drying finish is not very long. The finish is slightly drying.
