Score 92/100 · Drink 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

The 2004 Brut Grand Cru Henri III is a little richer, rounder and creamier than the Brut Grand Cru. Roasted nuts, wild flowers, mint and honey all flesh out in an inviting creamy, expressive Champagne loaded with Pinot Noir texture and breadth. Sweet floral and spice notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and presence. The Henri III is 100% Pinot Noir. This bottle was disgorged on April 29, 2013. Dosage was 6 grams per liter.

Coutier's 2004 Brut Grand Cru Henri III is 100% Pinot Noir vinified and aged in barrel. It is naturally bigger and more focused than the straight 2004 Brut, with plenty of Pinot character and structure. Pure saline notes form the backbone as this powerful, deep wine shows off its considerable personality and class. This is another fabulous wine from Coutier. Disgorged January 2012.

Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. Coutier is one of my favorite among Champagne’s smaller houses. The wines always deliver tons of quality at reasonable prices. The estate is located in Ambonnay, a village with a reputation for broad-shouldered Champagnes. Coutier lists disgorgement dates on their corks, which is better than nothing but far from consumer-friendly. This is the last year I will review the Coutier NV wines until disgorgement dates appear on back labels. Importer: Polaner Selections, Mt. Kisco, NY; tel. (914) 244-0404
