Lily and heliotrope garland cidery apple on the enticing nose, while the palate impression is snappy, tart-edged, and even a bit spare. I like the tang, invigoration and refreshment of the finish, though, which predictably features fresh lime and apple over a bed of wet stone. As with the corresponding Lay, it could be that screwcap closure is playing a significant role here (although Loosen has been employing that method with Kabinett for some time now).

The 2015 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett is clear and flinty on the nose and delivers the typical ripe, lush and sensual fruit aromas of this famous grand cru. Piquant and racy, but also lush and juicy on the palate, this is a pure, fine and elegant but pretty sweet Kabinett. However, the wine is very attractive, but probably not as concentrated or complex as the corresponding Würzgarten.
Tank sample. Quite stinky nose. Marked fruit but very inexpressive for the moment. Pear juice and veg. (JR)
Subtle, floral nose with some candied-lemon and wet-stone notes. On the palate, stunning concentration for just 10.5% alcohol in an almost dry wine. Silky harmony, in spite of the serious structure and just a hint of wood from 36-months maturation in an old barrel. Where are the langoustines? Drink or hold.
