This block of Clone 15 Cabernet Sauvignon is what launched Caterwaul. A partnership between Matt Hardin and Thomas Rivers Brown was formed during the 2014 vintage – Matt’s wife is part of the Regusci Winery family – and the initial idea was simple: lean fully into Stags Leap character from a hand-picked block and see what Thomas could do with it. They liked the results very much, and the brand was born. In 2023, the wine is scrumptious, with excellent fruit concentration and depth, underpinned by a striking ironstone mineral character that runs throughout. The multidimensional tannins carry a distinctly chocolatey quality, finishing with impressive length and juicy tension that practically demands an immediate next sip. Proceed with caution – once opened, this bottle has a habit of disappearing in no time flat.

From a site in Stags Leap District, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Regusci Vineyard shows killer red and black fruits intermixed with ample loamy earth, savory flowers, and spicy nuances. It's medium to full-bodied and has a layered, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, sweet tannins, and an already accessible, undeniably delicious profile. Drink this pleasure bomb of a wine any time over the coming 15 years or more. Drink 2025-2040.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Regusci Vineyard is packed with inky dark fruit, chocolate, scorched earth, new leather and spice. This dense, intense Cabernet Sauvignon packs a serious punch. This is Stags Leap at its most powerful.

Marked by a distinct hint of shoe polish, Caterwaul's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Regusci Vineyard is also deeply floral, with plenty of black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied and rich, creamy across the mid-palate and lush but structured with a long finish framed by fine-grained tannins. Owner/winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown said during our tasting, "One of the big stories in Napa is the rejuvenation of Stags Leap District," and this wine's potential surely speaks to that.
