Score 97/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, May 2026

Also tasted as a preview, the 2024 Grattamacco has a deep purple hue and very appealing aromatics of pen ink, fresh plum, graphite, violet, and black pepper. This vintage required significant vineyard work, but the results are impressive. Full-bodied, it has a refined structure, bright acidity, and a sense of freshness and balance that may even surpass the 2025 at this stage (though it’s so early to tell). Founded in 1977 and only the second winery in the Bolgheri appellation following Sassicaia, the chief winemaker at Grattamacco is Luca Marrone, assisted by Davide Torchio.

Grattamacco

Grattamacco’s story begins when Piermario Meletti Cavallari purchased an abandoned vineyard in 1977 and grafted over many of the vines. He produced one of the earliest Super Tuscans in 1982 – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese and a wine which continues to earn acclaim today.
