Cask sample. Very chunky wood allied with intriguing Asian spices on the nose and palate. Fine grain to the tannins. Definitely a wine with class and potential. Smooth and complex, dark fruit to the fore. A fine Clos de Vougeot. (AWH)

The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru comes from the parcel planted in 1927. The nose had quite a lot of reduction making it difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure, quite fine tannins with a keen line of acidity. I admire the cohesion here and there is more complexity and mineralité on the prolonged finish. Certainly this should age with style, although it will need several years in bottle.

Henri Rebourseau

Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, this domaine has a long history and impressive vineyards (with over five hectares of Grand Cru), but has long been considered an under-performer. Today, however, the Bouygues brothers (of Montrose and Clos Rougeard) have taken ownership and change is afoot.
