Tasting notes
The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is another terrific wine from a memorable vintage. This village is known for powerful wines from limestone, clay and marl soils that often show aromas of rusty mineral or pencil shaving. You get those here along with bright cherry and Japanese plum. Nuanced details of licorice, ash and iris root emerge with time. This wine shows an authentic sense of place and is my favorite among these new releases from Tenuta Rocca. Some 6,000 bottles were made.

Full bottle 1,339 g. Fumy, pickled-plums nose. Mouth-filling and vivid, the richness of the fruit, sweetness of acidity and deeply woven threads of tobacco leaf, cinnamon, black cardamom and allspice not even remotely obscured by the powerful tannins, which feel as if they've been hewn from mahogany. Long and beautifully proportioned. (TC)
