The 2018 Barbaresco from La Ganghija is a bold, pungent Treiso Barbaresco. Wild cherry, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol are front and center in this wild, pleasantly rustic Barbaresco. There is certainly plenty of character here. Readers should expect an austere style, though.

Treiso. Tasted blind. Mature-looking ruby with orange tinges. Ripe, round, maturing dark-fruit nose with hints of tobacco and liqueur. Sappy red-fruit palate that is pleasantly light, although it gives the impression it is much older than it is. Bitter-sweet tannins are a little dominant on the finish. No great life expectancy and the fruit is a little thin. (WS)
