Drink 2035-2060, FINE+RARE, Apr 2026

The 2025 Château Tertre Roteboeuf 2025 is a deeply captivating and singular expression of Saint-Émilion, combining aromatic complexity with remarkable depth and precision. The bouquet opens with notes of tobacco leaf, cinnamon and blood orange, layered over a dense mineral core that gives the wine both tension and gravitas. Exceptionally well balanced, it delivers an impressive purity of fruit, with deep red fruit flavours expanding beautifully across the mid-palate. The texture is rich yet refined, carried by freshness and seamless integration. The finish is extraordinary in both persistence and detail, lingering on the palate for minutes with waves of spice, minerality and vibrant fruit resonance. A profound and intensely characterful Tertre Roteboeuf.

The 2025 Tertre Roteboeuf was the only sample taken directly from barrel à la Burgundy. It was picked on September 23 and 24, which, to my knowledge, was the latest among the Right Bank wines tasted during my time in the region. Matured in 100% new oak, it actually has quite a Pinot-like bouquet, with macerated small red cherries, raspberry coulis, a touch of pencil lead and crushed stone. Nicely controlled. The palate is medium-bodied and, as expected, displays a veneer of new oak. Modest depth, gentle grip, quite lactic towards the finish, with a patina of dark chocolate. Very typical of Tertre-Rôteboeuf's style, as always, have a cellar and the patience of a saint.

Cassis, sweet tobacco, graphite, and lead pencil notes all shine from the 2025 Château Tertre Roteboeuf, and it's just brilliant, offering everything you look for in a great bottle of wine. Full-bodied on the palate, it has an elegant, seamless mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and that freshness and purity of the vintage.

The perfume pops with notes of flowers, crushed raspberries, sweet cherries, plums, chocolate, and a touch of espresso beans. On the palate, the wine is soft, plush, elegant, and creamy. The texture, vibrancy, and purity of the fruits, along with a touch of crushed stones, stand out. With just 1-2 years in the bottle, this is going to offer stellar drinking for decades. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with 14.5% ABV. Harvesting took place September 19 - September 26. Yields were 27 hectoliters per hectare.
