The 2025 Montviel is not supposed to be neck and neck with Henri Parent's other Pomerol wines, but this works. Bright and lively on the nose, this has more energy than expected, with attractive plummy fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, satisfying acidity, pure black plum and strawberry fruit, with a touch of black pepper on the finish. This should drink well early but may well reveal its long legs.

Solid aromatics of red and black cherries, leafy herbs, and gravelly earth all emerge from the 2025 Château Montviel, a Pomerol based on 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc raised in one-year-old barrels. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, has a nicely balanced mouthfeel, more savory, chewy tannins, and a good finish. The tannins will need to be watched, yet I suspect this will show well in bottle.

Medium- to full-bodied with concentration, pure dark fruit, polished tannins and a subtle, pleasant, grainy texture.

The 2025 Montviel is a powerful, heady wine that expresses all the natural intensity of the year. Succulent red cherry fruit, exotic spice, new leather and cedar are all dialed up. Montviel is usually quite approachable in its youth, but the 2025 is densely packed. Accordingly, the 2025 is a rare Montviel that will need a bit of time in bottle. A rush of dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, lavender and gravel are some of the many notes that punctuate the finish. It will be interesting to see where this goes with élevage.
