Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2029-2040, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 Grand Corbin Despagne has a ripe, showy and very plummy bouquet, more floral in style than some of its peers, well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and slightly candied black fruit. It just misses some delineation and restraint on the finish, which needs more bandwidth. Perhaps that will develop during barrel maturation? Possibly.

Darker berries, leafy herbs, liquid violets, and ample graphite all define the 2025 Château Grand Corbin-Despagne, a blend of 85% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in 35% new barrels, 35% one-year-old barrels, 10% 400-liter barrels, and 10% amphora. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's focused and nicely balanced, with integrated tannins. It was a touch reserved and understated on both occasions I was able to taste it, yet it should certainly be outstanding, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it show more character once bottled. It checks in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.68.

A classic St. Emilion with blueberry and raspberry character and limestone undertones giving it chalkiness. Medium-bodied with a lightly chewy finish.

The 2025 Grand Corbin Despagne is deep and quite powerful. Black cherry, leather, espresso, licorice, dried herbs and chocolate take shape in the glass. This builds beautifully with time, showing lots of Cabernet savoriness and pepperiness. Superb. Tasted two times.
