Score 88-90/100 · Drink 2029-2038, Neal Martin, May 2026

The 2025 Blason d'Issan has the most Cabernet Sauvignon since 2016 (65%). Attractive, quite forward scents of black plum and blueberry fruit give this fine delineation and openness. The palate is medium-bodied, with slightly angular tannins on the entry, certainly fresh, modest in depth, with more red fruit towards the defined, quite linear finish. It will just require a couple of years in bottle before it is ready to go.

Juicy red, blue, and black fruits, spicy wood, tobacco, and violets all define the 2025 Blason D'Issan, a beautiful second wine of Château d'Issan from Margaux. Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot that's being raised in 35% new barriques with the balance in once-used barrels, it's medium-bodied on the palate, nicely balanced, and already charming, textured, and delicious. Harvest ran late here, from the 11th to the 17th of September, and the wine checks in at 13.77% alcohol with a healthy pH of 3.48. It finishes with good acidity and will shine right out of the gate.

A firm and linear wine showing crunchy orange peel, raspberry and fresh violet aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm and silky tannins and a vivid finish. Excellent energy in this second wine from d’Issan. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 32% merlot and 3% petit verdot.

The 2025 Blason d'Issan is a gorgeous second wine. There's more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend this year because Merlot was especially affected by dehydration on the vine. That comes through in the wine's savory aromatic profile and structural feel, making it very much a sibling to the Grand Vin. Crushed flowers, graphite, blueberry, lavender and mint are all beautifully delineated in the glass. Lifted floral overtones perk up the vibrant finish.
