Tasting notes
Tank sample. Deep, brooding, mysterious. Lots to come. Oak is very evident on the nose/palate – needs time. Firm tannins, but great purity and drive on the palate. Dark-berry/cherry fruit. Violet notes. An expensive premier cru but one that has many characteristics often seen in the grands crus. (AWH)

Containing 30% stems, the 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champonnets 1er Cru was described by Simon Mazzini as a more "masculine" wine. This has an attractive bouquet with vivacious redcurrant, blackberry and wild hedgerow aromas that gain momentum in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, a little dense with hints of blue fruit emerging towards the satisfying and persistent finish. Very classy and quite delicious. Just two barrels produced.
