Showing even better than a year ago, the 100% central coast Syrah 2007 Right Hand Man shows a deep ruby/red color to go with smoky Syrah notes of plum, chocolate, game, and spice, medium to full body, and a supple, fresh, and elegant texture. There's plenty of ripeness and sweet mid-palate fruit, but this finishes well. Drink bottles over the coming 3-5 years.

Another bargain is the 2007 Right Hand Man, a Syrah exhibiting loads of peppery black currant fruit, with hints of earth and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, silky textured and loaded, a Syrah this good usually costs twice the price. This is a heck of a buy. There are some terrific values in this portfolio from Barrel 27 Wine Company. This is the second straight year these wines from Barrel 27 have stood out as one of the very positive and lovely surprises in my tastings of Central Coast wines. Tel. (805) 237-1245
