Tasting notes
Coming from the Santa Cruz Mountains, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Peter Martin Ray is a deeper red color and is layered and complete, with fantastic intensity to its notes of cassis, kirsch, fresh flowers, and forest herbs. It has a long-lasting, ripe feel, and the finish is velvety but well-defined. It’s a wine you can use to inch people over to the wines of Ceritas. The berries are tiny in this vineyard, contributing to the profound intensity this wine brings forward. The team from Ceritas are continuing to push the bar steadily higher, never resting on their laurels. The 2023 range from them is not to be missed.

Fully destemmed and allowed to warm up a bit before going into a concrete tank for fermentation with ambient yeasts and no additional temperature control. A combination of pumpovers and punchdowns are used with a goal of only moderate extraction. Spends between 30 and 36 months in 500-litre used French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Smells of black cherry, blackcurrant, dried flowers and herbs. Intensely juicy flavours of blackcurrant and black cherry have a faintly saline quality. Powdery, ethereal tannins coat the mouth and hang cloud-like as the flavours swirl and vibrate on the palate. Notes of dried herbs, liquorice root and dusty road. Fantastic acidity. A stunning wine.
