Score 95/100 · Drink 2025-2045, Jeb Dunnuck, Aug 2026

A bright ruby color, the 2023 Pinot Noir Hyland Vineyard Coury Clone has a spicy profile of menthol, hibiscus, wild berries, and graphite. Medium-bodied, it’s focused and refreshing, with elegant tannins and a light savory edge. Sneaky intensity builds on the palate and continues to amplify as it opens. This has the depth and balance to age gracefully. Drink 2025-2045.

The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard Coury Clone comes from vines planted in 2000, and the wine was matured in 27% new oak. It has intense aromas of cranberry sauce, holiday spice, floral potpourri and bitters. The medium-bodied palate features crunchy red fruit flavors framed by refined, chalky tannins. It’s balanced by juicy acidity and has a long, spicy finish.

From a site planted in 2007 to Dijon 777 and now grafted to Coury (after losing the block to smoke in 2020), the 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard Coury Clone is pristine and minty, with notes of fresh raspberry and ripe cherries. Crisp, refined tannins and balanced acidity support a focused, elegant frame with tension and length. Linear and refined, Nebbiolo lovers like myself will gravitate toward this one. This block looks down toward Beaux Frères. I love this wine and would drink it all day. Drink over the next 20 years.

Crushed black cherries mingle with nuances of citrus and an air of lavender as the 2023 Pinot Noir Hyland Vineyard wafts up from the glass. cool-toned and fresh, it impresses with lift and a graceful persona as perfumed red and blue fruits swirl throughout. The 2023 leaves a gentle tug of fine tannins and chalk minerals while tapering off long and lightly tannic.
