Tasting notes
The 2023 Pinot Noir Wildrose Estate is all power and brawn. Sumptuous dark fruit, leather, rose petal, cinnamon, dried herbs and mocha all flesh out. The 33% stems are pretty much buried by the sheer intensity of the Dijon clone fruit. This is a pretty exuberant style for DuMOL, but it works. What a gorgeous wine.

The 2023 Pinot Noir Wildrose Estate Vineyard comes from Dijon clone vines planted in 1999. Grapes were harvested on October 6, and the wine was fermented with around 40% whole clusters. Matured for 14 months in 28% new French oak, it has pure aromas of raspberry, cranberry, hibiscus, rooibos tea, incense and foresty undertones. The medium-bodied palate offers complex, detailed flavors. It’s framed by chalky tannins and mouthwatering acidity and has a long, elegant finish. 450 cases were made.
The 2023 Pinot Noir Wildrose is a sensual, inviting wine. Dark-toned fruit, lavender, sage, mint and dried herbs fill out the layers. There's gorgeous opulence and texture here, more than enough to balance the 50% stems. I find the Wildrose both exotic and beguiling.
