Tasting notes
In contrast to the Alpine Hillside bottling, which feels like an altogether different wine from the regular Alpine bottling, the 2022 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Hillside Vineyard takes the normal Horseshoe rendition and remasters it in higher resolution and more vivid colors. The meaty, red-fruited aromatic intensity and concentration of the regular bottling is turned up considerably. Whereas the standard bottling is more focused down the middle of the palate, the texture here coats the entire mouth equally with vibrant, layered saturation and an initially tight, inward finish that gradually but continuously blossoms and expands. The effect of aeration is particularly noticeable throughout, with seemingly every movement of the glass causing another nuance to appear. It's the richest, most luxurious Pinot Noir in the Rhys stable.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Hillside is a total knockout. It shows the finesse and nuance this site is capable of while also offering plenty of the heady, racy intensity that runs through all the Pinots in this vintage. A burst of dark red/purplish fruit, blood orange, pomegranate, mint and cedar stains the palate. Sweet floral overtones appear later to extend the substantial mid-palate and finish. This is superb. - Antonio Galloni
