Tasting notes
The 2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains from Domaine Jean-Marc & Hugues Pavelot offers a remarkably stony, mineral expression, driven by elegant, fresh red fruit. The bouquet is vivid and animated, with notes of red cherry and crushed strawberry layered with iodine nuances and a touch of black plum, all delivered with striking clarity and precision. On the palate, the wine is very clean and consistent, combining filigree tannins with a velvety, well-balanced texture. A saline core runs through the mid-palate, enhancing the sense of freshness and depth, before a subtle light spice kick emerges on the long, persistent finish. Clear, poised and beautifully mineral, this is a top-class Savigny that is both immediately engaging and built to give years of pleasure.

The 2024 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Gravins ler Cru has more cohesion and delineation compared to the Les Lavières, with a hint of tobacco in the background behind the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with finer tannins, delicate in style but there is admirable weight on the finish with fine tension. One of Pavelot's best cuvées this vintage.

A fairly deep crimson purple. The bouquet is solidly Savigny, with that slightly savoury touch. I like the way the fruit fills the palate, with a good backing if acidity. The fruit returns prominently at the back of the palate, along with a lick of oak.
