The 2024 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite an austere bouquet following on from the Clos Vougeot that exhibited more vitality. The wood just impinges a little at the moment, though that will be absorbed. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins, very linear in style, a correct Charmes-Chambertin that is just shorn of flair on the finish by the challenges of the growing season. Not bad but inclemency denied it the substance and body.

Note: from a .35 ha holding near the bottom of Mazoyères. Cool and softly spicy aromas are comprised by perfumed notes of various red berries, exotic tea and a lovely array of floral elements. There is a bit more size, weight and power to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvet textured mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the firm if not robust and mildly austere finale that offers fine depth and persistence. This is caressing but firm so at least moderate patience is suggested.
