Score 98/100 · Drink 2030-2080, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2025

From a smaller production of a single parcel Clone 191 Cabernet Sauvignon aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Heritage Ridge displays a vivid purple hue and sensational aromatics of red, blue, and black fruits, bouquet garni, graphite, crushed stone, and iron. It's full-bodied, with a pure, focused mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and integrated acidity. This is a dramatically different wine compared to the Calarcadia with its focused, insanely pure, elegant style, yet it's still massively concentrated and powerful. It deserves a solid 5-7 years of bottle age and will keep for 50 years. Drink 2030-2080.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Heritage Ridge is another super-impressive wine from The Vineyardist. It offers striking mid-palate richness to play off the strong varietal Cabernet notes and mountain structure that are such signatures here. As a reminder, the Heritage Ridge is sourced from a dry-farmed block behind the historic home planted with low-vigor rootstock on iron-rich Aiken soils.

Coming from a particularly late-ripening 1.5-acre parcel, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Heritage Ridge wasn't picked until November 4, the day rain started to fall across Napa. Scents of bay leaves and violets accent black cherries and cassis on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is firm and dusty, with a long, tannic finish.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Heritage Ridge comes across as quite embryonic at this stage. Even so, it possesses all the exotic inner sweetness and mid-palate pliancy that are such signatures of this cuvée. I can't wait to taste this from bottle.
