Score 100/100 · Drink 2028-2080, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2025

A powerhouse wine based on 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia reveals blackcurrants, smoky tobacco, graphite, and a Haut-Brion-like scorched earth character. Full-bodied, dense, and thick, with a stacked mid-palate, building tannins, and sensational finish, it's a monster Diamond Mountain Cabernet that epitomizes this great appellation. It's a more expansive, sexy wine compared to the more focused Heritage Ridge and is absolute perfection in this reviewer's opinion. Drink 2028-2080.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard soars from the glass with graphite, pencil shavings, menthol, lavender and chocolate. Inky and deep, with tremendous vibrancy, the 2023 is positively stunning. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing, but everything about this speaks to finesse and balance. The purity of the flavors is just striking.

The Vineyardist's 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard boasts classic mountain aromas, including hints of pencil shavings, crushed stone, cassis, bay leaf and sage. It's full-bodied, velvety, intense, richly tannic and firm but ripe, with a long, lingering finish. This needs plenty of time in the cellar, but it's so promising.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard is shaping up to be magnificent. Crushed rocks, iron, licorice, leather, tobacco and cedar all race across the palate. Layered and vibrant, the 2023 sizzles with savory/mineral intensity. Chalky tannins accentuate the wine's energy and tightly wound personality.
