Tasting notes
The 2022 Cabernet Franc Napa Valley is a step up, and it's a toss-up between this and the reserve in 2022. A blend of 95% old vine Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot, it reveals a semi-opaque ruby/purple hue (very few 2022s are truly opaque) as well as a brilliant nose of sweet red and blue fruits, loamy earth, leather, bouquet garni, and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, upfront, broad, expansive, and seamlessly put together, it has ripe, velvety tannins, a solid mid-palate, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish. It has classic varietal elegance and finesse while still bringing plenty of sexy, ripe opulence and texture. It’s drinking nicely right out of the gate, yet I see no reason this shouldn't evolve for another 15-20 years.

The 2022 Cabernet Franc is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, espresso, licorice and cloves all hit the palate. There's not much varietal character in this vintage. Instead, what comes through is the wine's flamboyant opulence and ripe fruit profile. It will be interesting to see how this develops. The 2022 was done in 100% new oak.
