Earth, wild mushrooms, citrus fruits, flowers, minerals, and traces of honey are found in the Puligny-Montrachet Les Demoiselles' complex and beguiling aromatics. This enthralling Chevalier-Montrachet look-alike has enormous class and refinement. It offers a rich, ripe, highly concentrated, and extremely detailed flavor profile filled with walnuts, stones and sweet but crisp pears. In its admirable finish anise and juniper berries can be discerned. Drink this magnificent premier cru between 2002-2010. 1996 was a spectacular year for Colin's wines. The bright, bracing, focus-providing acidity that characterizes the vintage married magnificently well with his trademark plump, ripe, rich, and concentrated wine style. Pungent aromas of vineyard peach, curry powder and earth. Fatter and perhaps more concentrated but less vibrant than the Truffieres; conveys an impression of lower acidity. Can't quite match the layered texture of the above today. But still quite long on the aftertaste. This will need more time in bottle and may ultimately merit a considerably higher score. Perhaps in a particularly dumb state today.
