Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2019

Bright copper-orange color. Sexy inviting, musky scents of orange zest, honey, baked bread and toffee. Fat, silky and smooth on the palate; sweeter and less gripping than the '86, but still shows a firm edge of almost lemony acidity. Plenty of sweet soft citrus fruits remaining. A wine with serious palate presence and velvety seamlessness, this Chevalier-Montrachet carries its thickness through a fairly suave, firm, lingering finish. Delicious and edge-free right now, with no shortage of energy. I have fond memories of this wine just after it was bottled and it still gives considerable pleasure 35 years later. (13.95% alcohol; 5.85 pH)
