Score 91/100 · Drink 1997-2001, Robert Parker, Jan 1990
The 1987 Echezeaux, usually the top wine of Robert Jayer, is not superior to his remarkable Nuits St.-Georges Les Damodes. Deep ruby in color, with a very perfumed, aromatic bouquet suggesting violets, plums, blackberries, and spicy oak, the Echezeaux has exceptional depth, and is rounder and more supple than the outstanding 1986. It should be consumed now or aged until 1997-2001. I have heard complaints that Robert Jayer charges too much money for some of his wines. This may be true, but he has very few peers in Burgundy.
