Score 94/100 · Drink 2024-2050, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Apr 2024

The radiant, amber-colored 1993 Riesling Clos Saint-Urbain Rangen de Thann opens with a precisely aromatic and concentrated bouquet reminiscent of apricot confiture with orange, lemon and flinty aromas. Round and vital on the palate, this is a rich and pretty sweet yet fresh and stimulatingly saline Rangen with a perfect botrytis expression. This elegant Saint Urbain sails on delicate, vibrantly fresh and mineral acidity and develops an almost tart finish with fine bitters and a certain astringency. Bottled with 12.4% alcohol and 23 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted as part of the large Rangen vertical in Wachenheim, Pfalz, in November 2023 and again in March 2024. After a warm late summer, September wasn’t that nice, but so was the late season, reported Olivier Humbrecht. "1993 is a big late harvest vintage on the domaine with lots of late noble rot. The Rangen had lots of concentrated botrytis, and even on the Riesling plots, we harvested grapes at 100° Oechslés."
