The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is fabulous. It's also a swan song for Dehlinger, as these blocks were taken out after harvest because of declining yields. Blackberry jam, graphite, sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and chocolate soar from the glass. It's a stunning wine in every way. Tom Dehlinger planted Cabernet on the estate in 1975 as part of the original development of this site. Clearly, he saw something others did not. Count me among those who would like to see Cabernet come back here. If it does not, the 2022 will make a fitting end to a brilliant history of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Russian River Valley.

I’m so impressed with the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which I cannot recommend enough to readers. The nose leads with an explosive personality, lifting with graphite, cassis, forest earth, pine, and black cherries. Full-bodied, it’s light on its feet, long on the finish, and has fantastic savory and balanced fruit to drink over the next 20 or more years. This is a singular wine coming out of the Russian River Valley. One of the most unique properties in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma County, the Dehlinger estate is a single, contiguous property spanning 80 acres with diverse exposition, soils, and biodiversity. The original 14 acres of vines were planted by Tom Dehlinger in 1974. Today, his daughters Eva and Carmen lead the way in the vineyards and winery and are producing some of the most compelling Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay the region has to offer. The Garbro Ranch labels are one of the region's top values, with a clear lens into the estate’s focused style and transparency of place.

Ripe plums, strawberry preserves, Bing cherries and red roses on the nose. The palate is juicy, with flavors of cherry juice and dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied. A very accessible wine with fresh acidity that is drinking nicely right now.
