Bergman's 2022 Red Wine is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot and 7% Merlot, matured 20 months in 100% new French oak. Picked at the beginning of the post-Labor Day heat spike, it offers up scents of mixed red and black cherries, plus an intriguing hint of sage. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and generous, adding some caramel and brown sugar notes. Smooth, supple, long and harmonious, with hints of mocha and dark chocolate on the finish, there are enough tannins to think it won't be only an early-drinker. Expect 250 cases to be released for shipping in fall 2025.

The 2022 Proprietary Red Wine is a similar blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot, and 7% Merlot that spent 20 months in 100% new French oak. It's a classic 2022 with its upfront, ripe, expressive profile of red and black fruits, loads of spice, leafy tobacco, and new leather notes. With medium to full-bodied richness, a deep, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a great finish, this plush, sexy, pleasure-bent 2022 will have a solid 10-15 years of prime drinking and probably more.

The 2022 Proprietary Red Wine is a very pretty wine. It is the first vintage made under Nigel Kinsman. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit and mint run through medium-bodied Cabernet. The balance here is impeccable within the context of this very challenging vintage. Texturally, the Proprietary Red still needs work, but this is nevertheless very fine for what was possible in 2022.
