The 2022 Le Désir is tremendous. A wine of poise, balance and immeasurable depth, the 2022 is so lifted and bright, almost radiant in its technicolor vibrancy and beguiling Franc character. Blood orange zest, bittersweet chocolate, lavender, dried herbs and iron filings march across the palate, saturating the palate with intense yet perfectly measured concentration. Le Désir boasts a very intense structure, but also a sense of immediacy and fine beauty that is impossible to miss. Magnificent.

80% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec. Third year of drought, despite some rain in December and January. Fruit from Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill, Knights Valley. Harvest 5–14 September. Aged for 16 months in French oak, 95% new. Light and fresh. A bit leaner than La Joie – maybe it should have been served before it? But certainly not overdone! Clean, if rather angular, finish. May well gain charm in bottle. (JR)

The 2022 Le Désir is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Malbec that matured for 16 months in 95% new French oak. It demands plenty of time in the glass before revealing pure, complex aromas of red and black cherries, tobacco, garrigue, grilled meats, soy sauce and lilac perfume, plus compelling ferrous undertones. The full-bodied palate features enveloping, detailed flavors. It has a seamless structure of velvety tannins and bright acidity and a long, layered finish. It should be long lived in the cellar. 1,900 cases were made.

Medium to full intensity, with the signature curl of violets and peonies of this wine, slate tannins, rise and lift and grip, fragrant gunsmoke, woodsmoke, crushed red roses on the finish. Pierre Seillan director and winemaker, Jackson Family Wines owners.
