Tasting notes
The balance of white peach, Amalfi lemon and parsley aromas with the racy, Amalfi lemon acidity and delicate spritz of natural carbon dioxide gives this great riesling kabinett so much energy and appeal. Incredibly refreshing, almost dry finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification.

The 2023 Riesling Maximin Grünhäuser Abstberg Kabinett #22, a single Fuder barrel bottled separately for its special character, offers a nose that still hides behind reduction. Lemon candy and peach play on the palate with a fruity intensity that almost verges into Spätlese territory. While the core is sweet, the finish tapers back to salty, mouthwatering zestiness. Totally light, totally intense and so long.
The 2023 Riesling Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Kabinett #16 is still under a cloud of reduction and wants to give little away. The palate, however, sprays with slate and lemon, fizzing away with citric lightness, like a little dynamo of absolutely mouthwatering freshness. This honors the very idea of Kabinett with its seeming effervescence, stony focus and precise flavors. Lightness is an absolute virtue here, with the 60 g/L of residual sugar pitched against 8.5 g/L acidity, edging just into sweetness. Available at auction: 480 bottles, 36 magnums, 1 methuselah. Grosse Lage.Really very fine: sleek and crisp and defined with tenser, livelier fruit than the Herrenberg Kabinett. 17.5/20 points (JR)
