Score 92-94/100 · Drink 2024-2040, Neal Martin, Jan 2023

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet En Cailleret 1er Cru has a very strict, again, almost Chablis-like bouquet with light marine/cockle shell scents percolating through. The palate is tensile on the entry, quite steely, with more complexity and amplitude than the Premier Cru; the 2021 has a lovely, nutty finish. One of my favourites from Damien Colin, though there are only four barrels, around half the usual production this year.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets was showing beautifully, mingling aromas of pear, peach and confit orange with notes of buttery pastry and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it's rich and layered, with terrific depth and concentration and a long, spice-inflected finish.
