Score 85/100 · Drink 2023-2026, Eric Guido, Vinous, Mar 2023

The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is dusty, floral and a bit muted, opening slowly in the glass with a delicate mix of dried roses, black cherries and crushed stone. It washes across the palate with silky textural fruits underscored by saline minerals and brisk acidity that adds contrast. The 2019 finishes tart but also shorter than preferred, leaving the cheeks puckered. I thought this may have been a flawed bottle until I opened a second one to find the exact same notes.
